Small Wedding Venues in the Cape Winelands for Under 50 Guests

A wedding for 30 or 40 people changes what's possible. You can take over a whole guest house, seat everyone at one long table in a historic cellar, or book a farm that would never fit 150. This guide lists the small wedding venues Cape Winelands couples can verify from official estate pages, with seated capacities, minimum numbers, where guests can sleep and published prices with the year they apply to.

Every venue comes from our Western Cape wine farm wedding audit, checked against official estate websites, wedding pages and package PDFs on 5 October 2026. A venue qualifies if its audited seated capacity is about 50 or fewer, or it publishes a space or package designed for 50 or fewer guests, and the audit shows it hosts weddings (yes) or wedding-style celebrations (limited) with a source link. We note minimum guest numbers where the estate publishes them. Limited venues offer small celebrations or functions rather than a full wedding programme. Prices are copied as published with the year; older or undated prices are flagged. Package totals, venue hire and minimum spends aren't comparable side by side. Elgin and the outer regions aren't covered yet.

Verified small wedding venues

Whole-estate takeovers for 50 or fewer

Plaisir de Merle, Franschhoek (Simondium). The Tributary is an exclusive venue for up to 28 guests, all of whom can stay in the estate's seven Manor Homes. Venue hire is R85 000 and the two-night exclusive estate stay for up to 28 guests is R50 000, with a minimum wine spend of R30 000 per 100 guests (2026, as published by the venue). A professional coordinator is compulsory and catering is brought in. November 2026 to April 2027 is fully booked; May to August 2027 is the estate's winter wedding season.

Zandberg Wine Estate (The Country Guest House), Somerset West. Built around 34 guests: ceremony in the chapel among the vines, reception, a three-course dinner, accommodation for all 34 and breakfast at 96 Winery Road. The 2025–2028 brochure lists R80 000 in low season (April to September) and R95 000 in high season (October to March) (as published by the venue). It's one of the few packages here that includes everyone's bed. The PDF link was down when we checked, so ask for the current file.

Foothills Vineyards (Klein Welmoed), Stellenbosch. A 1927 barn and a front lawn with Helderberg views, marketed explicitly for small weddings. The audited capacity is 40 seated, with exclusive use of the farm, R15 000 worth of Foothills wine included and cottages sleeping up to 24. Food, staff, décor, bar and cleaning are your responsibility, and the hire rate is on enquiry.

Taaibosch Wines, Stellenbosch. A private-estate wedding experience with villas for up to 22 guests in 11 rooms, a dedicated planner, exclusive use and outdoor vineyard ceremonies. An official February 2026 post values the catering at R750 per guest (2026); there's no single package price.

Brookdale Estate, Paarl. An exclusive-use Cape Dutch Manor House in the Klein Drakenstein. Indoors seats 12 (40 for cocktails), and outdoor weddings take 60 to 80. The six suites sleep 12 adults, and events over 20 guests need a two-night Manor House booking. A private chef cooks for house guests. Rates on enquiry.

Intimate spaces at bigger estates

Babylonstoren, Paarl. The Studio package uses the Wheat Barn (46) and White Studio (38) and includes two nights in the Koornhuis cottage and the nine-bedroom Farmhouse. It's from R449 800 in low season, May to August (2026, as published by the venue), or R463 000 (2027); food and drinks are extra, with family-style menus from R1 250 per person (2026) plus 15% service.

Silvermist Vineyards, Constantia. The outdoor Kraal venue has an Intimate Gatherings band for 25 to 49 guests at R33 000 low season (April to August) or R44 000 high season (September to February) (2026), rising to R38 500 and R49 500 in 2027 (as published by the venue). Catering is from R375 per person, plus 12% service. Event guests get 35% off rooms at the boutique hotel and cottages.

Steenberg Vineyards, Constantia. Villa Lawn ceremonies for up to 40, then a reception at Tryn (50 seated) or in the Cuvée Room (40). The five-star hotel is on the farm. The live function page shows undated minimum spends (Cuvée Room dinner from R20 000), not a wedding package, so ask for a quote.

Beau Constantia, Constantia. A hilltop farm above False Bay. Its packages are priced around 50 guests, with a Signature Chefs Warehouse option for 50 or fewer. The entry level, Option 4, is half-day exclusive use of the main deck with Vineside food from R102 500 ex VAT (2026, as published by the venue). Drinks, florals, gratuity and extra furniture are additional.

Lanzerac Wine Estate, Stellenbosch. Option D is for 15 to 30 guests in the Private Dining Room or Cellar Foyer, without a dance floor, at R28 000 (August 2025 to July 2026 brochure). Ask for the August 2026 rates.

De Meye Wines, Stellenbosch. The 2026/27 packages (valid to 30 September 2027) include an all-inclusive Package Four for up to 50 at R111 000, the Petite barn package for up to 60 at R29 800, and the Harvest House Café for up to 30 at R9 000 (not Saturdays or public holidays) (as published by the venue).

Paserene, Franschhoek. The Nest and Hidden Garden take up to 50 for a wedding. The 2027/2028 investment for 50 guests is R210 000 ex VAT (as published by the venue), including exclusive use from 07:00 to midnight, coordination, catering, staff and a welcome MCC. There's no accommodation on site.

Vrede en Lust, Franschhoek. The Residence hosts small weddings for up to 40. The venue fee is R24 000 (September 2025 to August 2026) plus a three-night minimum stay; tables, flowers, catering and music are extra.

Old Road Wine Co., Franschhoek. A Franschhoek Cellar venue for up to 50, at R14 500 venue hire (2026 portfolio, as published by the venue), excluding food, coordination, décor and staff. The estate's Rose and Protea cottages each sleep four.

Arcangeli Wines, Walker Bay. A chapel, gardens and an indoor venue for 60 indoors plus 20 outside, exclusive from Friday 16:00 to Sunday 12:00 for R25 000 VAT inclusive (current functions page, undated; read 5 October 2026). Catering is in-house, and four suites plus a fifth room are on site.

La Petite Ferme, Franschhoek. The live wedding page talks of celebrations for up to 45 guests, with the restaurant and boutique hotel reserved exclusively. The only published rates are in a historic 2022–2024 brochure, so request current packages.

Joostenberg Wine Estate, Paarl. The Kraal courtyard seats 60, and a semi-private area for up to 40 has no venue hire for brunch or lunch during trading hours. Full exclusive use needs 40 guests, with venue hire from R10 000 Monday to Thursday (rates valid to 31 October 2026).

Limited: small celebration venues

• Moya's Vineyard, Walker Bay (Limited): an exclusive-use Hemel-en-Aarde villa for gatherings of up to 40, sleeping 20. Weddings aren't named.
• LovanE Boutique Wine Estate, Stellenbosch (Limited): a guest house estate for up to 32 guests, with no wedding page.
• Kyburg Boutique Wines, Stellenbosch (Limited): a self-catering Barn among Devon Valley vines seating 24.
• Compagniesdrift Wines, Stellenbosch (Limited): a farm-shop venue for 20 to 30 guests, with platters from R300 to R500.
• Constantia Uitsig (Limited): Chardonnay Deli celebrations for 40 to 90, with free venue hire for exclusive use and food from R250 to R450 per person (2026).

Booking tips for a small wedding

• Ask about minimums before you fall in love. Many larger venues have minimum guest numbers or minimum spends that make a 30-person wedding expensive. Our small-wedding picks either publish low minimums or are built for small groups.

• Check what's excluded. Venue-only hire often leaves out catering, staff, décor and coordination.
