Elopement and Micro Wedding Venues in the Cape Winelands

Eloping doesn't have to mean a registry office and a quick lunch. Wine farms from Franschhoek to Walker Bay now offer chapels among the vines, private islands and lawns, long lunches and suites for two to twenty people. This list covers the elopement venues Cape Winelands couples can verify on official estate pages, with what each one includes and, where published, the price and the year it applies to.

How we checked this

Every venue comes from our Western Cape wine farm wedding audit, checked against official estate websites, wedding pages and package PDFs on 5 October 2026. A venue qualifies if the estate markets an elopement, intimate or small-wedding option, or publishes a space or package for about 20 guests or fewer, and the audit shows it hosts weddings (yes) or wedding-style celebrations (limited), backed by a source link. Limited venues offer small celebrations or functions rather than a full wedding programme, so treat them as leads to confirm. Prices are copied as published, with the year. Undated or older prices are flagged and never shown as current. Packages, venue hire and minimum spends are different things, so don't compare them as like for like. Elgin and the outer regions aren't covered yet.

What counts as an elopement or micro wedding here?

For this list, an elopement is a wedding for the two of you, with or without a handful of guests, and a micro wedding is up to about 20 guests. If you're closer to 30 to 50, our guide to small wedding venues for under 50 guests is the better fit.

The venue provides the setting, food and often the bed; for a legal ceremony you still need a marriage officer and two witnesses (see below).

Verified elopement and micro wedding venues

Packages built for two to twenty

Mont Rochelle, Franschhoek. The clearest productised elopement on this list. Mont Rochelle's 2025 wedding brochure lists a Perfectly Intimate package for up to 10 guests from R27 750 (2025, as published by the venue), with accommodation charged on top. The Virgin Limited Edition hotel has a Manor House for blessings, a Private Tasting Room and a private picnic spot by the dam.

Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate, Walker Bay. A lagoon-side estate near Bot River with a dedicated elopement package for 2 to 20 guests. The official wedding page says it includes a private ceremony, a villa, a coordinator, photography, a private tasting and a spa element. Ceremonies can be in the barrel cellar venue, the vineyard garden or on a lagoon sunset deck, and there are 13 villas. No prices are published: Benguela Cove sends custom proposals.

Zandberg Wine Estate (The Country Guest House), Somerset West. A tiny chapel among the vines with a hand-painted ceiling, run with the guest house and the neighbouring 96 Winery Road restaurant. The estate's 2025–2028 functions and wedding information lists exclusive chapel hire at R4 000 for a two- or three-hour slot, plus a one-night add-on for the couple at R1 900 with breakfast when you book the chapel (2025–2028 brochure, as published by the venue). Steenberg Vineyards, Constantia. The Villa Lawn by the heritage Villa buildings takes ceremonies for up to 40, and the Ruby Room at Tryn seats 18 for a private dinner. The five-star Steenberg Hotel is on the farm. The live function page shows a Cuvée Room exclusive-use minimum spend from R8 000 for breakfast to R20 000 for dinner (up to 40 guests), but the page is undated and these are function minimum spends, not wedding packages. Ask for a written quote.

Groot Constantia (Simon's and Jonkershuis), Constantia. South Africa's oldest wine-producing estate. Simon's markets intimate spaces for small weddings and private elopements, and Jonkershuis has a private dining room for 25. Ceremonies happen under ancient oaks with the 300-year-old Manor House behind you. No wedding prices are published.

Ceremony spots you can hire by the hour

Eikendal Vineyards, Somerset West. Eikendal hires out its Island over the farm dam exclusively for up to 30 guests, for a day slot (11:00 to 17:00) or an evening slot (18:00 to 23:00), at R2 500 (2026, as published by the venue). That's hire of the space only; full wedding quotes are tailored on request. A lodge and cottage are on the estate, with Helderberg views.

De Meye Wines, Stellenbosch. De Meye's 2026/27 packages (valid 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027) include a 1.5-hour elopement or engagement photo session at R2 500, and the Harvest House Café for up to 30 at R9 000, not on Saturdays or public holidays, with night bookings at double the rate (2026/27, as published by the venue).

Haute Cabrière, Franschhoek. The vaulted underground Cellar Gallery carries a year-round minimum spend of R5 000 (2025, as published by the venue), and the estate's events page lists weddings among its special occasions. The 2025 events calendar was fully booked, so ask about 2026 and 2027 rates.

Le Manoir de Brendel, Franschhoek. A boutique estate with its own chapel by a lake, seating about 40 inside or 60 outside, plus a garden gazebo, deck and Cellar Barn. There are 10 suites and two cottages, so a couple and a few family members can all stay over. The official functions page was intermittently down in October 2026 (content confirmed from an indexed copy), and prices aren't published.

96 Winery Road, Somerset West. The restaurant shares the Zandberg chapel among the vines and offers on-site catering. The official site gives approximate figures: venue hire from about R10 000 to R15 000 and catering from around R160 per person. The page is undated and the wording is approximate, so confirm before you budget.

Small gatherings at larger estates

Babylonstoren, Paarl. Its main wedding packages are for bigger groups, but Babylonstoren also offers Small Gatherings for 11 to 25 guests at Babel, the Greenhouse, the Spice Garden or the Bakery. Rates for these aren't on the wedding page, so ask.

Lanzerac Wine Estate, Stellenbosch. Lanzerac's Option D is an intimate package for a minimum of 15 and maximum of 30 guests in the Private Dining Room or Cellar Foyer, with no dance floor, at R28 000 (August 2025 to July 2026 brochure, as published by the venue). Ask for the August 2026 rates. The historic Jonkershoek hotel is on the estate.

Brookdale Estate, Paarl. An exclusive-use Cape Dutch Manor House in the Klein Drakenstein. Brookdale hosts half-day intimate events for up to 12 guests, such as engagements and vow renewals, and its six double suites sleep 12 adults with a private chef. Events over 20 guests need a two-night Manor House booking. Rates on enquiry.

Blaauwklippen Wine Estate, Stellenbosch. The venue-hire page lists the Tasting House for 2 to 60 guests, and the estate actively markets vineyard weddings. The historic Glass Cathedral was damaged in an April 2024 fire, so confirm which spaces are available. Rates on enquiry.

Yonder Hill Wines, Somerset West. Yonder Hill invites couples to celebrate a commitment of vows with Helderberg views. The Manor House sleeps up to six from R4 240 a night and Olive Cottage from R3 460 a night (2026 accommodation rates, as published). These are room rates, not a wedding price; venue hire isn't published.

Limited: small celebrations to confirm

• My Wyn, Franschhoek (Limited): a vigneron-led Celebration experience for 8 to 16 people with optional catering. It's a wine-led gathering, not a full wedding venue.
• La Motte, Franschhoek (Limited): the Syrah Studio takes up to 20, and the estate's contact page lists weddings among its function locations. Function packages, not wedding packages.
• Bosman Hermanus, Walker Bay (Limited): the glass-fronted Sunroom seats 30 and can be booked exclusively for special events in off-peak seasons, during operating hours.
• Wildeberg, Franschhoek (Limited): the Manor House sleeps eight and is offered for smaller celebrations, but the same page also says no events in the accommodation. Confirm before you plan.

Comparison table

These prices measure different things (package, room-only add-on, space hire, minimum spend), so the table shows how each venue charges rather than which is cheapest.

The legal part, in one paragraph

A legal South African wedding needs a designated marriage officer, both of you present in person and at least two competent witnesses, who sign the register with the marriage officer. Couples eloping on their own often ask the venue, the photographer or the coordinator to act as witnesses, so check that's possible before the day. Foreign couples need passports and proof of lawful stay, and requirements differ by nationality. Booking tips for a winelands elopement

• Ask what "elopement" includes. Some packages cover the ceremony, a meal and a room; others are space hire only. Get the inclusions in writing.
• Book the marriage officer first. Section 29(1) of the Marriage Act means officers don't have to marry you outside 8am to 4pm, so agree a golden-hour time early.
• Ask what's private. Small groups often share the estate with tasting-room visitors.
• Midweek and winter are easier. Several estates on this list publish lower off-peak rates. See winter wedding specials.

Yes. Mont Rochelle's Perfectly Intimate package starts at the very small end (up to 10 guests), Benguela Cove's elopement package starts at two, and Zandberg rents its chapel exclusively. For a legal ceremony you still need a marriage officer and two witnesses.

How much does a winelands elopement cost?

Published examples include Eikendal's Island hire at R2 500 (2026), Zandberg's chapel hire at R4 000 (2025–2028 brochure), and Mont Rochelle's Perfectly Intimate package from R27 750 (2025), plus accommodation. Which elopement venues have a chapel?

Is winter a good time to elope?

It can be: rates are often lower and farms quieter, but June is usually the wettest month and sunset is before 18:00, so choose a venue with an indoor fallback.
