An outdoor "I do" among vines, under oaks or on a river lawn is why many couples pick a wine farm in the first place. This guide lists Cape Winelands estates where our audit records garden, lawn or vineyard ceremony options, with seated capacity, wet-weather backup notes and dated prices.

How we checked this

Every venue comes from our Western Cape wine farm wedding audit (Franschhoek, Stellenbosch, Paarl, Constantia, Durbanville and Walker Bay), checked against official estate websites and package PDFs on 5 October 2026. A venue qualifies if ceremony options or venue spaces mention gardens, lawns, vineyards, riverside or oak settings for the ceremony, and it hosts weddings (yes) with a source link. We favour estates that also publish an indoor or covered backup. Prices are copied as published with the year. This is a curated shortlist from a larger garden-capable pool — not every lawn on every farm. Elgin and the outer regions aren't covered yet.

Wind and rain: build Plan B early

Cape summers bring south-easter wind; winters bring frontal rain. Before you fall in love with a vineyard aisle, ask:

• Where do 100 guests sit if it pours during vows?
• How far is that backup from the photo spots?
• Who decides, and by what time on the day?

Verified garden and vineyard ceremony venues

Franschhoek

Boschendal. Outdoor gardens and lawns at the Olive Press, Rhone rose gardens and Retreat amphitheatre/gardens, with indoor reception venues. Packages May 2026 to April 2027 from R100 000 (Rhone low season) and from R195 000 (Olive Press low season).

Grande Provence. Garden and vineyard ceremonies with Gallery / Jonkershuis indoor rain plans, exclusive use and Owners Cottage stay. Pricing reviewed each September; packages on request.

Holden Manz. Symbolic ceremony at the confluence of the Franschhoek and Stony Brook rivers, plus other garden and vineyard sites, restaurant reception for up to 120. Packages on request.

Allée Bleue. Open-sky gardens and riverside lawns, Palm Gardens / Bell Tower lawns and indoor Le Grand Hall (up to 350). Historic undated proposal listed weekday off-season hall hire at R20 000 — confirm current rates.

Maison Estate. Ceremonies under ancient oak trees amidst vineyards, Chefs Warehouse reception, exclusive use for up to 80. Exclusive packages from R371 000 low season (2025/2026).

Paserene. Hidden Garden, Nest and Lawns (open-air or marquee) for up to 200. 2027/2028 investment from R210 000 ex VAT for 50 guests.

Vrede en Lust. Ceremony and pre-drinks gardens beside the glass Vineyard Terrace (up to 120 seated). Residence small-wedding fee R24 000 (2025/2026) plus stay.

Le Manoir de Brendel. Garden gazebo and wooden deck ceremonies alongside the chapel, for about 70 guests.

Stellenbosch and Helderberg

Lanzerac Wine Estate. Ceremony lawns (R9 000 alongside a reception booking in the August 2025 to July 2026 brochure) with Cellar Hall receptions up to 250.

Vergelegen. Historic gardens and estate lawns at scale (up to 400 seated audited). 2024 package brochure lists inclusions; ask for current rates.

Cavalli Wine & Stud Farm. Sunken Garden and lawn ceremony options with main venue up to 350. Hire from R38 000 ex VAT low season Monday to Thursday (2025–2026 brochure).

Le Pommier. Outdoor ceremony lawn in front of the Vineyard Barn (mountain view) or poolside at Granny Smith. Barn up to 150; packages from R950 per person / 80 guests (2026).

Fort Simon. Estate garden settings plus the Houmoed Chapel for wind or rain; packages from R79 750 for 50 guests (2026/27).

Vergenoegd Löw. Werf courtyard and Amy's Island on the vlei as outdoor options beside Valentina's Chapel; reception in Clara's Barn (up to 80). Intimate packages from R203 696 (2026).

De Meye. Venue lawns and garden cottage settings around the converted barn (up to 120). Packages from R19 800 day-time (2026/27).

Foothills (Klein Welmoed). Front lawn with Helderberg backdrop for small weddings (about 40), reception in the 1927 Barn or a marquee on the terraced lawn.

Paarl

Babylonstoren. Ceremony outdoors under the oaks by the stream (included in the venue fee); House of Shadows at the bottom of the garden is an add-on (R40 000 on the 2026 web page). Studio packages from R449 800 (2026).

Laborie Wine Estate. Vineyard lawn and deck options with Champagne Cellar backup (150 seated). Hire from R38 000 low season Monday to Thursday (2027/2028).

Domaine Brahms. Garden ceremony in courtyard and gardens with thatch gazebos (up to 100 outdoors), historic chapel among vines for 150.

Nelson's Creek. Multiple garden wedding locations plus Old Cellar chapel and halls to 350.

Joostenberg. Kraal courtyard seating about 60, with lower Monday to Thursday hire from R10 000 (rates valid to 31 October 2026).

Constantia, Durbanville and Walker Bay

Silvermist Vineyards. Outdoor Kraal setting with mountain backdrop; packages by guest band from R33 000 low season 2026 for 25–49 guests. Boutique hotel on site.

Beau Constantia. Hilltop vineyard-view ceremonies (amphitheatre / deck) over False Bay. Packages from R102 500 ex VAT (2026).

Groot Constantia. Garden and manor settings with Jonkershuis and Simon's indoor receptions (up to 250 / 160–200). Winter indoor fireplace option at Simon's.

Steenberg Vineyards. Villa Lawn ceremonies for up to 40, receptions at Tryn or Cuvée Room. Minimum spends on the live function page are undated.

Meerendal. 8 000 m² lawn and gardens for photos, rustic chapel and marquees for weather. Chapel hire from R6 000 (2026).

Nitida. Courtyard ceremony included with Saffron and Glass Conservatory hire at R43 000 (2026); ceremony moves inside if it rains.

Wildekrans. Ceremony on the lawn or in the chapel (up to 130), both included for weather flexibility; Glass House reception.

Arcangeli. Chapel and gardens for an intimate weekend-exclusive wedding (60 + 20 outside); hire R25 000 VAT inclusive (undated functions page).

Comparison table

How to shortlist a garden venue quickly

1. Match dinner capacity to vow capacity. A lawn that holds 200 standing for vows is useless if dinner only seats 80 indoors without a marquee hire. 2. Prefer published rain backups on the same property. Farms that only offer "we'll discuss tents" need a clearer quote before you pay a deposit. 3. Check sunset direction for your month so the aisle photos aren't straight into harsh light. 4. Ask about irrigation and spraying. Vineyard-edge ceremonies sometimes clash with farm schedules. 5. Confirm generator and toilet plans for lawn-only layouts, especially above 100 guests.

• Schedule the ceremony to avoid peak wind where the farm sits in a known wind corridor.
• Budget shade and water for summer vineyard aisles (parasols, water stations, timing).
• Walk the wet-weather route in shoes your bridal party will wear.

Can we marry among the vines?

Yes — many estates allow vineyard or vineyard-edge ceremonies (Holden Manz's river confluence, Laborie's vineyard lawn, Beau Constantia's hilltop vines). Confirm vine health, irrigation timing and guest access so heels don't sink into tilled soil.

What if it rains on our garden wedding?

Use a chapel, cellar, glass conservatory or hall on the same farm. Nitida explicitly moves courtyard ceremonies inside; Wildekrans includes chapel or lawn; Boschendal and Grande Provence publish indoor reception spaces as rain plans.

How many guests can a garden ceremony hold?
