Stellenbosch Wine Tours
Verified ways to tour Stellenbosch wine estates — private, shared and hop-on options.
Last checked: 6 October 2026
Stellenbosch is the Cape's biggest and busiest wine region: historic oak-lined streets, a long list of cellar doors and valleys that each have their own character, from Simonsberg and Devon Valley to Banhoek, Jonkershoek and the Helderberg slopes. A Stellenbosch wine tour takes the driving (and the planning) off your hands, and there are more ways to do it here than anywhere else in the Winelands: hop-on shuttles, e-bikes, scheduled small-group days from Cape Town and private guides.
This page compares them so you can pick the right style, then points you to our detailed guides where a format has its own page.
How we checked this
Every operator here was checked on its official website on 6 October 2026. Prices are copied exactly with year, basis and whether tastings are included. Where no year is shown, we say so. Third-party listings, where mentioned, are labelled secondary.

Adding Franschhoek, or the Wine Tram
Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are only the Helshoogte Pass apart, and many tours combine them. See our Stellenbosch and Franschhoek day tour guide. Hop-on is R350 per person adult (2026), transport only, with estate tastings R60 to R260 per person extra. Everything Tram-related is on our Franschhoek Wine Tram guide.

- Book lunch early, especially at weekends; see /restaurants.
- Stay in town to use the hop-on and e-bike options without a city transfer; see /places-to-stay.

FAQs
How much is a Stellenbosch wine tour?
It depends on the style. Vine Hopper is R450 per person (2026), transport only, rising to R470 per person from 2 November 2026. Scheduled small-group days from Cape Town are R2,277 per person (Wine Flies, 2026) or R2,280 per person (Wine in the Cape, 2026), tastings and lunch included. Can I do a Stellenbosch wine tour from Cape Town?
Yes. Wine Flies, Wine in the Cape and never@home run scheduled days from Cape Town, and most private operators collect from Cape Town hotels. Vine Hopper's hop-on routes start in Stellenbosch itself.
Are tastings included?
On scheduled small-group and most private tours, yes. On Vine Hopper hop-on tickets and some VineBikes half-days, no: you pay at the farms.
Which Stellenbosch tours run at weekends?
Wine in the Cape and Wine Flies run their Stellenbosch days on Saturdays, and Vine Hopper's Southern Route runs on Saturdays and Sundays. Private tours run on request.
Can we bring the dog?
Not on hop-on shuttles or shared tours. Many Stellenbosch farms welcome dogs on their own terms; see dog-friendly wine farms in the Western Cape.
Is Stellenbosch good for families?
Vine Hopper sells child tickets and some Eastern Route farms are family-friendly. VineBikes offers child seats (ages 3 to 5) and Halfwheeler attachments (about 5 to 9) on some half-days. Under-18s can't taste wine, so ask about juice or other alternatives.
