Shared Group Wine Tours from Cape Town
Small-group and coach wine tours from Cape Town — value, pace and what to confirm.
Last checked: 6 October 2026
A shared wine tour Cape Town day puts you in a minibus with other wine lovers: one fixed itinerary, one guide, and a seat price that is usually far kinder than hiring a vehicle for yourself. It is a lovely way to see the Winelands if you are travelling solo or as a couple, you don't mind a set route, and you'd quite like to meet people over a cheese pairing. This guide compares the scheduled small-group tours that collect from Cape Town, using each operator's own published details.
How we checked this
Each tour below was checked on the operator's official website on 6 October 2026. Prices are copied exactly with year, basis and whether tastings are included. Where an operator shows no year, we say so. Third-party listings appear only as labelled secondary links.
What "shared" means here
All the tours on this page are scheduled small-group days: they run on set weekdays, follow a fixed or semi-fixed route, and sell seats per person. They are different from:
- Hop-on hop-off networks (the Franschhoek Wine Tram and Stellenbosch's Vine Hopper), where you ride shared transport but plan your own stops and pay tastings at the farms. See the Franschhoek Wine Tram guide and Stellenbosch hop-on hop-off wine tour.
- Private tours, where the vehicle is yours alone. See private wine tours from Cape Town.
The good news: every shared tour below includes tastings in the seat price, and all but one include lunch too. That makes like-for-like comparison much easier than with hop-on tickets.

Wine Flies — boutique stops and a winemaker's home
Distinct trait: the widest hotel pickup zone (City Bowl plus Atlantic Seaboard and the V&A Waterfront) and a maximum of 13 guests per vehicle.
The Stellenbosch & Franschhoek Wine Tour visits La Motte (or Grande Provence), Rickety Bridge, Mitre's Edge and Delheim, with a guided drive through Franschhoek village. The highlight for many guests is a cheese and chocolate pairing with the winemaker in her own home at boutique Mitre's Edge. More than 20 tastings, cheese, chocolate and biltong pairings, a cellar and vineyard tour and lunch at a wine estate are all included. La Motte is closed on Mondays, so Grande Provence steps in on Monday departures. Estates can change for weather or closures.
The Stellenbosch Wine Tour visits Simonsig (Cap Classique), Mitre's Edge and Middelvlei, where lunch is a traditional braai, plus a fourth estate that rotates (Muratie, Annandale, Delheim or Asara; Annandale is closed on Sundays, a day this tour doesn't run). Same inclusions.
Price: R2,277 per person (2026), tastings and lunch included. (The 2025 rate was R1,980 per person; some older pages still show it.)
Pickup: 08:00 to 08:30 City Bowl; 08:30 to 09:00 Atlantic Seaboard and Waterfront (slightly later on the Stellenbosch tour). Guests in Camps Bay or the Southern and Northern Suburbs take a taxi to the Never@Home meeting point at 73 Kloof Street, Gardens, by 08:00. Guests staying in Stellenbosch meet at the first winery. Drop-off around 17:30.

How to choose between them
- You're staying on the Atlantic Seaboard or at the Waterfront: Wine Flies collects from there; African Story collects from its Waterfront office. Others ask you to get to a central meeting point.
- You're a slow starter: Wine Tours South Africa picks up at 10:00.
- You can only do a Friday, or you're travelling on a backpacker budget: never@home's Friday day from Kloof Street.
- You need a tour any day of the week: Wine Tours Cape Town and Wine Tours South Africa run daily.
- You want bubbles and sabrage: Wine in the Cape's Stellenbosch day at Simonsig. Wine Flies' Stellenbosch day also stops at Simonsig.
- You love boutique, family-run farms: Mitre's Edge features on both Wine Flies and Wine in the Cape itineraries.
- You want to cover the most ground: African Story's three-region day.
- You're booking for exactly two people on a Monday: check the minimum — Wine in the Cape needs four guests per booking, so Wine Flies or Wine Tours South Africa may be easier.
- You're on a budget: Wine Tours South Africa (R1,690 per person, no year shown, lunch included) and never@home (R1,690 per person, 2026, lunch extra) have the lowest published seat prices. The Franschhoek Wine Tram's hop-on ticket is cheaper still, though tastings are extra there.
Shared tour or hop-on?
If you'd rather choose your own stops and you are happy to pay at each cellar door, a hop-on network can work out cheaper. The Franschhoek Wine Tram's hop-on ticket is R350 per person adult (2026), transport only, with estate tastings of R60 to R260 per person extra. Stellenbosch's Vine Hopper is R450 per person (2026), transport only, rising to R470 per person from 2 November 2026. Both start in the Winelands, not Cape Town; the Tram offers a separate Cape Town transfer add-on. Full details are on the Wine Tram hub and the hop-on hop-off page.
The Wine Tram also sells inclusive shared days from Franschhoek (Flavours of the Vine, Curated Wine Experience and others), covered on the Tram hub.
Making the most of a shared day
- Eat breakfast. You'll taste 15 to 20+ wines before and after lunch. Our what to eat before wine tasting guide helps.
- Spit if you like. Nobody minds, and you'll enjoy the afternoon more. See how wine tasting works.
- Be on time for pickup. A shared bus waits for nobody for long.
- Tell the operator about dietary needs when you book, since lunch is set. See wine tasting with dietary needs.
- Carry a card for any wine you want to buy, and read buying wine after tasting for shipping tips.
- Tip your guide if you had a great day: wine tour tipping and booking.
Who shared tours suit — and who they don't
Shared tours are ideal for solo travellers, couples, first-time visitors and anyone who likes a ready-made plan. They suit people less well if you need a flexible finish time, travel with young children (several tours are 18+), have mobility needs (none of these operators publishes wheelchair details), or want specific estates. In those cases a private wine tour or accessible tour planning is the better start.
FAQs
How much is a shared wine tour from Cape Town?
Published per-person prices range from R1,690 (Wine Tours South Africa, no year shown; never@home, 2026, lunch extra) to R2,280 (Wine in the Cape, 2026), with Wine Flies at R2,277 (2026), Wine Tours Cape Town from R2,000 (2026 page, confirm) and African Story at R2,000 (no year shown). All include tastings; all except never@home include lunch.
Are tastings included on shared tours?
Yes, on every scheduled shared tour on this page (never@home includes tastings but not lunch). That is a key difference from hop-on tickets, where tastings are paid at each farm.
How big are the groups?
Wine Flies and never@home take up to 13 per vehicle and Wine Tours South Africa up to 12. Wine in the Cape and never@home need at least four guests to run.
Do shared tours pick up from Camps Bay or the suburbs?
Wine Flies and Wine in the Cape ask Camps Bay and Southern/Northern Suburbs guests to meet at Never@Home on Kloof Street. Wine Flies does collect from Atlantic Seaboard and Waterfront hotels.
Can children join a shared wine tour?
Wine Tours South Africa and Wine Tours Cape Town are 18+. Others don't state a child policy on these products, so ask. Wine in the Cape and Wine Flies sell separate family tours.
Can I bring my dog?
Not on a shared minibus. If your dog is coming along, plan a self-driven day around dog-friendly wine farms in the Western Cape.
