Stellenbosch Hop-On Hop-Off Wine Tour
How Stellenbosch hop-on hop-off wine shuttles work — routes, inclusions and booking tips.
Last checked: 6 October 2026
The main Stellenbosch hop on hop off wine tour network travellers mean is Vine Hopper (operated with Adventureshop Stellenbosch): colour-coded Northern, Southern and Eastern day routes from central Stellenbosch, plus a 2-day pass add-on and a private guided alternative. This guide sticks to official Vine Hopper / Adventureshop facts.
How we checked this
vinehopper.co.za route pages, the 2025 brochure PDF, and the Adventureshop Activitar booking page (verified 6 October 2026). Viator and GetYourGuide listings are shown as labelled secondary sources.
The fee rule
Northern, Southern and Eastern day tickets are published at R450 per person (2026) on the official route pages. That price is transport and driver only — tastings are not included. Vine Hopper states tasting fees at farms of about R55 to R120 per person per farm (vinehopper.co.za); always confirm at the cellar door.
The online booking page also showed R450 per person for dates to 30 October 2026, and R470 per person for dates from 2 November 2026 (checked for Nov 2026, Dec 2026, Jan 2027). Prefer the live booking total on your date.
Lunch is not included — optional at estate restaurants, own account.
How Vine Hopper works
1. Choose a route (Northern, Southern or Eastern) that matches that day’s timetable. 2. Board from central Stellenbosch guesthouses or the Stellenbosch Tourism Information office (141 Dorp Street) — collection is included. 3. Hop on and off along the published timetable. 4. Pay tasting and meal bills at each farm. 5. Catch a later vehicle toward the final collection point for that route.
Closed: Good Friday, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day (online booking page).

Hop-on vs Franschhoek Wine Tram
Vine Hopper is Stellenbosch-centred with optional Eastern reach toward Boschendal. The Franschhoek Wine Tram is Franschhoek-centred with Orange/Green reach into Simondium / Helshoogte. Both sell transport tickets that usually exclude cellar-door tasting fees. Full Tram detail: Franschhoek Wine Tram guide. Active e-bike alternatives: e-bike wine tours.
Choosing among hop-on, private and shared coaches: how to choose a wine tour. Budgeting tasting extras: wine tour costs and /tasting-experiences/how-much-wine-tasting-costs.
Kids are generally welcome on hop-on routes (minimum ages 0–2 depending on the route). Build a gentle pace (how many wineries in one day). Dogs are not a published Vine Hopper feature — see /pet-friendly.

Booking tips
- Book on Adventureshop Activitar links from vinehopper.co.za.
- Pre-book estate restaurants and popular picnics.
- Carry payment for tasting fees of about R55–R120 pp per farm, as listed on vinehopper.co.za (no year shown). The online booking page quotes higher figures, so confirm on the day.
- Check route days of week before you sketch a weekend itinerary.
- From 2 November 2026, expect the higher online day rate (R470 pp) unless the operator changes it again.
- Tipping norms: wine tour tipping and booking.
Sample day shapes
Weekday Simonsberg: Northern Route — Beyerskloof and Simonsig early, Warwick picnic if pre-booked, Remhoogte before final collection. Weekend Helderberg: Southern Route — skip Annandale on Sundays; confirm Cavalli if your day is Tuesday. Weekday Helshoogte: Eastern Route — Lanzerac pairing interest, Boschendal midday, Zorgvliet toward the end; ready for stepladder boarding if the safari vehicle is on.
Always leave margin for traffic between estates and for tasting rooms that run behind schedule (how many wineries in one day).
Money map (Vine Hopper)
| Product | Published from-price | Basis | Year | Tastings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Northern / Southern / Eastern day ticket | R450 (route pages); online booking page R470 from 2 Nov 2026 | per person | 2026 | Not included (about R55–R120 pp per farm stated on vinehopper.co.za) |

| Private wine tour | from R6,100 | per group | 2026 | Included (4 premier tastings; the booking page also mentions pairings); lunch excluded |
Do not compare a per group private total to a per person hop-on ticket without converting carefully.
What hop-on does not solve
Off-route boutique farms, strict wheelchair needs on Eastern safari vehicles, and same-day Cape Town hotel collection for hop-on buses. Use private products or other operators when those constraints matter (accessible wine tours).
Kids, mobility and pets
Children are welcome on hop-on routes with low minimum ages on the booking pages. Still plan shade, snacks and shorter tasting flights. Eastern Route boarding can involve a stepladder on safari-style vehicles — not ideal for all mobility needs. Wheelchair access is not clearly promised on official Northern pages; Southern secondary listings say not wheelchair accessible; Eastern states the stepladder requirement.
Dogs are not part of the published Vine Hopper product. Use /with-dogs/guides/dog-friendly-wine-farms-stellenbosch/ when the day is about dogs rather than hop-on buses.
After your hop-on day
If you loved one estate, book a return tasting directly (how to book wine tastings). If you want Franschhoek next, switch networks rather than forcing Vine Hopper beyond its map — Wine Tram guide or tuk-tuk Franschhoek.
Why Vine Hopper dominates this search
“Stellenbosch hop on hop off wine tour” and “Vine Hopper Stellenbosch” point to the same network in our sources. Other shuttles may exist later; this page only lists products with official Vine Hopper / Adventureshop sources. When other hop-on operators publish verifiable prices and inclusions, they can join a future update — we will not invent them now.
