Family-Friendly Wine Farms in Paarl
35 family friendly wine farms in Paarl: play areas, kids tastings, Goat Tower, ponies and picnics, plus drive times, day plans and nearby attractions.
If you're looking for family friendly wine farms in Paarl, this valley delivers. Paarl sits on the N1 corridor between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, and a wide set of estates have planned for children: jungle gyms and zip lines, grape-juice and milkshake pairings, Fairview's Goat Tower, Babylonstoren's garden and farmyard, Val de Vie pony rides, picnic lawns and pizza that small people will actually eat. This guide covers 38 farms (13 with a fuller family offer, 25 with a limited one), after skipping duplicate brand rows and counting Vondeling's public tasting under Vrymansfontein only. Most are about 38 to 52 minutes from Cape Town without traffic — close enough for a day trip once you clear the city.
This guide is written for parents. We'd rather you arrive at a farm that suits your kids than at a gorgeous one where you spend lunch steering a toddler away from the barrel room. So we've split our list honestly: farms with a fuller family offer first, then farms where the offer is more modest, followed by nearby family attractions.
How we chose these farms
Every farm here was checked against its own official website (and, where needed, corroborated visitor guides) in October 2026. We looked for the things that make a day out work with children: a play area, a kids menu, a non-alcoholic tasting for kids, animals or farm life, picnics, casual food, lawns, and activities like trampolines, trails or pottery.
We sorted them into two groups:
- Fuller family offer: at least one dedicated kids' feature (usually a play area, a kids' tasting or menu, or animals) plus outdoor space. There are 13 of these.
- Limited family offer: children are welcome and there's something for them — a kids menu, a picnic bag, a pottery café, a goodie box, overnight wildlife or event-day fun — but no full kids' setup. We describe exactly what's there. There are 25 of these.
We skipped duplicate brand listings (Mellasat now trades as Dekkersvlei; Kaapse Familie Wingerde visitor experiences sit under Vendôme; Retief is a Pearl Mountain range). Vondeling pours at Vrymansfontein for public family visits — we list Vrymansfontein only, not a second Vondeling farm card. Please check before you go. Play equipment gets removed, menus change, restaurants renovate, seasonal offers hibernate in winter, and functions take over lawns. Prices were correct when we checked and may have moved. A quick call the week before saves a lot of disappointment. Our booking guide covers what to ask.

Casual food is available on site; close child supervision is required around animals and water.
Good to know: no outside food or drink; pets are not allowed (guide dogs OK). Gravel and peach-pip paths are not ideal for prams or wheelchairs. Book ahead for popular slots.

Sample half-day and full-day plans
Half-day with toddlers (morning to early afternoon)
1. Pick one farm with play and a kids' tasting or menu, such as Laborie, Domaine Brahms (Wed–Sun), Dekkersvlei, Vrymansfontein or Simonsvlei (confirm its playground first). 2. Arrive close to opening while it's cool and quiet; do the kids' tasting first. 3. Eat an early lunch within sight of the play area. 4. Head home before nap time. One farm is plenty at this age.
Full day with primary-school kids
1. Morning: animals or big play. Fairview's Goat Tower and kids' cheese tasting, Babylonstoren garden plus Soetmelksvlei (Wed–Sun), Val de Vie pony rides (booked), or Domaine Brahms jumping pillow and water slide. 2. Lunch: play and casual food. Nederburg, Perdeberg, Rhebokskloof, Under Oaks, or Spice Route pizza beside the Kids Area, with scavenger hunt / ceramic painting. 3. Optional afternoon: Exotic Animal World, Playrock, Le Bonheur, Paarl Mountain, or an indoor KWV goodie box if the weather turns. 4. Keep it to two stops, three at most, check drives on your map, and sort out a sober driver first.
Day out with tweens and teens
Try Babylonstoren's garden harvest and farmyard, Rhebokskloof's trails, Spice Route workshops and trails, Fairview's cheese tasting, Joostenberg's set lunch, Mitre's Edge blend-your-own, or Val de Vie polo. Oude Denneboom, Brookdale / Calais / CANA, Mooi Bly and Nelson's Creek suit overnight stays — not rushed day visits. Remind them that alcohol tasting is for over-18s only — see SA alcohol age and etiquette.

Practical tips for Paarl with kids
- Book lunch, picnics, pairings, pony rides and popular experiences, especially on weekends and school holidays. See our booking reservations guide.
- Budget for garden and activity fees. Babylonstoren charges adult garden entry (under-18s free); Domaine Brahms packages and Perdeberg pairings are ticketed.
- Check opening days and seasons. Domaine Brahms kiddies fun is Wed–Sun; Under Oaks pizzeria closes Mondays; Rhebokskloof picnics run roughly Sep–May; Soetmelksvlei is Wed–Sun; Avondale picnics are Sat–Sun only; Val de Vie equestrian is closed Sundays; Windmeul kids fun peaks on market Saturdays.
- Confirm unstated play equipment. Simonsvlei's playground is described by third-party reviews but isn't on the official website — phone ahead.
- Don't pack your own picnic for Babylonstoren (no outside food or drink) or Glen Carlou. Other estates vary — ask when you book.
- Ask about prams. Babylonstoren paths are limited for prams and wheelchairs.
- Check the dog policy. Perdeberg, Rhebokskloof, Simonsvlei and Ayama (listings) welcome dogs; Babylonstoren, Vrymansfontein, Ridgeback, Oude Denneboom and Mooi Bly do not (service/guide exceptions where noted).
- Plan your transport. Read Uber vs self-drive with kids.
- Match the farm to the child. See how to choose an age-appropriate wine farm.
