What you can do
Dog-Friendly Wine Farm Restaurants in the Western Cape
Verified wine-farm restaurants and bistros with outdoor dog seating — policies from official sources.
Last checked: 6 October 2026
Searching dog friendly restaurants wine farm usually means outdoor tables, terrace rules and — rarely — a published dog menu. It does not mean every dining room on a pet-friendly estate. This guide sticks to estates where restaurant or picnic-dining access for dogs is clear from the farm’s own pages.
How we check this
We only list farms where a farm page, FAQ or other reliable source confirms dogs are welcome, and we say where they may go. Policies change — phone or email ahead. For overnight units see pet-friendly wine farm stays.
Outdoor first — why indoor dining is different
Most Cape wine-farm restaurants that welcome dogs do so outside. Indoor fine dining often stays pet-free even when the lawn next door is friendly. Municipal food-premises practice still matters: hosts may seat you on a terrace or lawn while keeping the air-conditioned dining room for guests without dogs. Read more under dogs at restaurants in South Africa.
Before you book, ask for outdoor seating in writing and name the dog’s size if the host asks. Arrive with water so you are not borrowing restaurant glassware as a bowl unless invited.
Verified outdoor restaurant and dining welcomes
Groot Constantia (Simon’s) (Constantia)
Simon’s welcomes leashed dogs at designated outdoor tables, with water bowls and a dedicated dog menu (à la bark menu PDF dated October 2024). Estate grounds: dogs on leads.
Simon’s is one of the clearest restaurant-first welcomes near Cape Town: designated outdoor tables, water bowls and a published dog menu (à la bark PDF dated October 2024). Estate grounds still expect dogs on leads.
Lourensford (Stellenbosch / Helderberg)
Leashed dogs at Millhouse Kitchen outside seating, East Cafe outdoors, and the weekend Lourensford Market doggie bar. Indoor tasting-room access is not a published dog welcome.
Millhouse Kitchen outside seating and East Cafe outdoors give you a proper meal stop without claiming the indoor tasting room as a dog space. Weekend market days add the doggie bar for casual treats.
Rhebokskloof (Paarl)
Well-behaved pets on a leash at picnic lawns and El Picoteo; clean up after your dog. Trails on the estate are not explicitly dog-confirmed on the trails page.
El Picoteo and the picnic lawns are the published pet surfaces — clean up after your dog and treat trails as unconfirmed unless the farm says otherwise.
Noble Hill (Franschhoek)
Harvest welcomes well-behaved dogs for outdoor / picnic seating — parties with dogs may not sit on the terrace.
Outdoor and picnic seating welcome well-behaved dogs; parties with dogs may not sit on the terrace. Book ahead and say you are bringing a dog so the host can seat you correctly.
Benguela Cove (Walker Bay)
Leashed dogs in the tasting room, terrace, courtyard and outdoor spaces. Restaurant: terrace only — not inside; no adventure golf or splash pad.
Walker Bay lagoon views work well for a long lunch — but only on the restaurant terrace. Do not plan adventure golf or splash-pad time with the dog.
Stanford Hills (Walker Bay)
Pet-friendly stays (R250 per pet (official, Oct 2024)), Casa Cello covered terrace with a pet menu, and estate walking trails. No dogs at concerts/events.
Casa Cello’s covered terrace with a pet menu is useful when the Overberg wind picks up. Keep concerts and ticketed events dog-free as published.
Bellevue (Stellenbosch)
Leashed dogs on the outdoor lawn for wine-by-glass, platters and pizzas. Formal Manor House indoor tastings are a different product.
The outdoor lawn for wine-by-glass, platters and pizzas is the day product. Formal Manor House indoor tastings are a separate booking.
Van Loveren (Robertson)
Leashed dogs are welcome on the Fish Eagle trail (hiking permit applies), on garden tours, and to relax beside you at Christina’s Bistro.
Christina’s Bistro is the meal seat after a Fish Eagle trail walk (hiking permit applies). Leashes stay on for gardens and dining.
Nieuwedrift (Swartland)
Restaurant copy welcomes pets on expansive green lawns with a play park — furry friends beside you outdoors.
Expansive lawns and a play park make this a strong family lunch stop in the Swartland — outdoors with your dog beside you.
South Hill (Elgin)
Restaurant copy welcomes kids and dogs on the spacious lawns opening from the dining room.
French doors open onto lawns where kids and dogs can stretch between courses — a lawn-led restaurant welcome rather than an indoor cellar claim.
Nuy Winery (Worcester)
Nuy on the Hill: pet-friendly at outside seating only — leashed dogs for restaurant, deli and tasting outings.
Nuy on the Hill combines restaurant, deli and tasting at outside seating only — keep the leash on for the whole outing.
Hillcrest (Durbanville)
Official Attractions page: proudly pet friendly. Dogs at tasting and restaurant outdoors; leash in shared areas; never leave pets unattended; owners clean up.
Durbanville’s clearest restaurant outdoor welcome: proudly pet friendly on the official Attractions page, with dogs at tasting and restaurant outdoors.
Vrede en Lust (Franschhoek / Simondium)

Merwida (Huis Te Merwede) (Breedekloof)
Dogs on a leash, outside only, at the tasting room and Cecile’s Tea Room; no BYO picnics.
Outside only at the tasting room and Cecile’s Tea Room; no BYO picnics. Useful Breedekloof tea-and-tasting stop with a clear leash rule.
Booking tips that save a wasted drive
Email or use the farm’s form to restate: party size, outdoor seating, dog size if asked, and any mobility needs. Screenshot the reply. If a product is weather-dependent (Stanford Valley deck, many lawn picnics), keep a covered Plan B such as Stanford Hills’ Casa Cello terrace or Benguela Cove’s tasting-room side when the restaurant terrace is full.
For celebrations and weddings, assume pets are not automatic even when day lawns welcome dogs — re-check house rules.
Heat, shade and summer seatings
Umbrella terraces still bake in Stellenbosch midsummer. Prefer earlier seatings and pack shade for the dog (summer tips). Never leave a dog in a parked car while you “just taste for twenty minutes”.
Pairing a restaurant stop with nearby lawns
A Constantia outdoor lunch at Simon’s pairs cleanly with a short estate stroll on leads. Stellenbosch guests often combine Warwick’s picnic lawns with Bellevue’s pizza lawn on separate half-days rather than one overloaded itinerary. Paarl Windmeul day-trippers can lunch-lean at Rhebokskloof after Perdeberg’s Doggy Pairing at the tasting counter.
Comparing restaurant welcomes
Dog menu / water bowls published: Simon’s at Groot Constantia; Stanford Hills Casa Cello pet menu; Lourensford market doggie bar (casual). Terrace-only restaurant: Benguela Cove. Outdoor / picnic seating, terrace restricted: Noble Hill. Lawns + restaurant: Rhebokskloof El Picoteo; Bellevue lawn; Nieuwedrift; South Hill; Highlands. Outside seating only (tasting + restaurant + deli): Nuy on the Hill; Merwida / Cecile’s Tea Room. Franschhoek / Simondium restaurants with leash welcome: Vrede en Lust — use Lust Bistro while Savoye is closed to the public 12 October 2026–16 May 2027.
FAQs
Can dogs sit inside wine-farm restaurants?
Sometimes, but outdoor seating is the norm. Vrede en Lust’s FAQ welcomes leashed pets in restaurants generally — still use Lust Bistro while Savoye is closed to the public (12 October 2026 to 16 May 2027). Benguela Cove is terrace only. Noble Hill excludes the terrace for dog parties.
Which farm has a dog menu?
Simon’s at Groot Constantia publishes a dog menu (à la bark, October 2024 PDF). Stanford Hills offers a pet menu at Casa Cello’s covered terrace. Perdeberg’s Doggy Pairing (R25, seen October 2026) sits with tasting rather than a full restaurant menu.
Do I need to book outdoor seating?
Yes in peak season. Ask for outdoor seating in writing and say you are bringing a dog so the host can place you correctly.
Are service dogs treated differently?
Assistance dogs follow a different legal path — see guide and assistance dogs at wine farms. This page is about companion dogs.
