Constantia · Western Cape
Steenberg Farm is a wine farm in Constantia, Cape Town, Western Cape. About 12 km from Cape Town.
Steenberg Vineyards occupies historic farmland at Steenberg Road, Tokai—the southern end of the Constantia Wine Route—marketed as the Cape’s first farm (roots in 1682, historically Swaaneweide) and today a full destination: cool-climate wines, a modern tasting room, two restaurants, a five-star hotel and spa, and a championship golf course at the foot of Table Mountain. For visitors who want more than a quick flight—Vineyard Experience, Cellar Experience, Icon tastings, or a casual glass next to Bistro Sixteen82—Steenberg is one of Constantia’s most complete hospitality campuses.
Steenberg’s public narrative ties the property to Catharina Ras, often framed as a pioneering woman farmer on this land in the late seventeenth century, and to more than 340 years of vines on site. The modern estate blends that heritage storytelling with regenerative farming messaging, stainless-steel and barrel cellars, and a hospitality offer aimed at Cape Town day-trippers and overnight guests alike. Official tasting experiences explicitly weave Catharina’s story into the premium Icon Tasting.
Geographically, Tokai / southern Constantia benefits from cool maritime influence suited to Steenberg’s reputation for Sauvignon Blanc (including labels such as Black Swan) alongside Cap Classique, Semillon, Nebbiolo and flagship blends such as Magna Carta and Catharina.
The tasting room invites guests to explore award-winning cool-climate wines with ambassadors in a modern inside/outside space overlooking the farm. Named experiences on the official wine-tasting page include Bubbly Glass Exploration, Cool Climate / Sense of Sauvignon styles, Sauvignon Blanc and Canvas Collection tastings, Curate Your Own, and Artisan Pairing. Itemised rand prices are not rendered in the static tasting-page HTML; a Steenberg press release dated 7 November 2025 (published via wine.co.za) listed:

Choose Steenberg if you want a polished Constantia tasting room plus optional vineyard and cellar experiences, serious Sauvignon Blanc and Cap Classique depth, and on-site hotel, spa, golf and restaurants. It rewards both first-time Cape Town visitors and wine travellers booking the Icon or Vineyard experiences. If you only want a R100 walk-in in a rustic shed with no booking, look to smaller Constantia farms instead—Steenberg is deliberately curated, cashless and reservation-friendly. On a Western Cape wine portal itinerary through Constantia Valley, it anchors the southern end with history, cool-climate wine and full-day hospitality.

Steenberg Vineyards works best for families who want a proper sit-down meal, about 25 min from Cape Town without traffic. Both restaurants publish children's menus: Tryn has one for under-10s (breakfast and lunch) and describes a relaxed, family-friendly garden setting, and Bistro Sixteen82 has a children's menu for under-12s. There's outdoor space around the historic estate, plus a garden audio tour for a gentle wander after lunch. A visitor guide lists Steenberg as wheelchair accessible, but pets aren't allowed. We found no dedicated playground, so pack a small activity bag for little ones at the table. Bookings are recommended for both restaurants and for tastings, especially on weekends. The estate also has a hotel, spa and golf course, but none of these are kids' attractions.
