Steenberg Vineyards: Tasting Room & Vineyard Experiences in Tokai / Constantia

Steenberg Vineyards occupies historic farmland at Steenberg Road, Tokai—the southern end of the Constantia Wine Route—marketed as the Cape’s first farm (roots in 1682, historically Swaaneweide) and today a full destination: cool-climate wines, a modern tasting room, two restaurants, a five-star hotel and spa, and a championship golf course at the foot of Table Mountain. For visitors who want more than a quick flight—Vineyard Experience, Cellar Experience, Icon tastings, or a casual glass next to Bistro Sixteen82—Steenberg is one of Constantia’s most complete hospitality campuses.

History: Catharina Ras to Cool-Climate Benchmark

Steenberg’s public narrative ties the property to Catharina Ras, often framed as a pioneering woman farmer on this land in the late seventeenth century, and to more than 340 years of vines on site. The modern estate blends that heritage storytelling with regenerative farming messaging, stainless-steel and barrel cellars, and a hospitality offer aimed at Cape Town day-trippers and overnight guests alike. Official tasting experiences explicitly weave Catharina’s story into the premium Icon Tasting.

Geographically, Tokai / southern Constantia benefits from cool maritime influence suited to Steenberg’s reputation for Sauvignon Blanc (including labels such as Black Swan) alongside Cap Classique, Semillon, Nebbiolo and flagship blends such as Magna Carta and Catharina.

Signature Wines & Tasting Room Menu

The tasting room invites guests to explore award-winning cool-climate wines with ambassadors in a modern inside/outside space overlooking the farm. Named experiences on the official wine-tasting page include Bubbly Glass Exploration, Cool Climate / Sense of Sauvignon styles, Sauvignon Blanc and Canvas Collection tastings, Curate Your Own, and Artisan Pairing. Itemised rand prices are not rendered in the static tasting-page HTML; a Steenberg press release dated 7 November 2025 (published via wine.co.za) listed:

  • Bubbly Glass Exploration — R230 pp (60 min)
  • Sense of Sauvignon — R210 pp (60 min)
  • Curate Your Own — R250 pp (60 min)
  • Cool Climate Excellence — R250 pp (60 min)
  • Artisan Pairing — R230 pp (60 min)

Confirm live prices when you book—menus can change after press announcements.

Immersive, appointment-led experiences (same Nov 2025 release; typically 48 hours’ advance notice):
