Peter Falke Wines is a wine farm in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. About 40 km from Cape Town.
Peter Falke Wines is a boutique Helderberg winery on historic Groenvlei Farm, set against the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains on Annandale Road in the Stellenbosch winelands. Magenta bougainvillea, roses and wild lavender frame carefully cultivated vineyards around traditional Cape Dutch gabled buildings that date back to the 18th century—paired today with a contemporary boutique cellar, stylish tasting room and luxurious outdoor lounge. The estate markets itself as one of the most elegant and serene sundowner retreats in the Cape Winelands: open later than many neighbours, with lawn seating, light food and views that invite a long afternoon into evening.
This is classic Helderberg / Annandale geography—False Bay–influenced air, mountain amphitheatre slopes and the so-called Stellenbosch “Golden Triangle” terroir narrative—rather than a busy Stellenbosch-town cellar door. Visitors come for polished hospitality as much as for pours.
The Falke family has done business in South Africa since 1969. German-born Peter (Franz-Peter) Falke—known internationally through the FALKE hosiery brand—fulfilled a long-held dream when he acquired Groenvlei in 1995. His wife Danièle, a French interior designer, shaped the estate’s refined aesthetic down to the smallest detail: the contrast between historic homestead and modern tasting lounge is intentional, not accidental. First wines under the Peter Falke label followed in the early 2000s (trade profiles often cite 2003 as an early bottling milestone). The boutique footprint is small—around 9 hectares of vines in published trade summaries—so the experience stays intimate rather than industrial.
Winemaking has been associated with talent such as Werner Schrenk on Signature Collection work (confirm current cellar credits when booking). The house narrative ties Signature cuvées to family names—grandchildren’s names appear on Signature bottles—underscoring that this is a personal passion project as much as a commercial cellar.
Two collections structure the tasting bench:
1. Signature Collection — contemporary mirrored labels aimed at the discerning connoisseur. Flagship bottles include Kailani Cabernet Sauvignon (rich dark fruit, cedar and cigar-box notes with dense, smooth tannins) and Kanoa, a Cabernet Sauvignon–Cabernet Franc blend with black cherry, raspberry, plum and pencil-shaving nuance over silky French oak. Muscat d’Alexandrie – Leilani offers amber colour, orange blossom, jasmine and rose with apricot on the palate. Cap Classique and other Signature pours rotate with stock—ask what is open on the day. 2. PF Collection — more relaxed, stylish and sociable: lighter, multifaceted wines designed for everyday elegance. Portfolio tastings often sample both ranges side by side so you can compare the serious cellar statement with the easy-drinking social line.
Formal flights historically listed on Stellenbosch Wine Routes and menus have included PF Collection (~6 wines), reds-only, combined Signature & PF sets (around 8–11 wines including MCC, Muscat and Kailani options), and single-wine tastes. Example tariffs published by wine-route listings have run roughly R90 / R120 / R200—confirm current prices when you book, as menus change.
Opening hours (official tasting-room page): Monday–Sunday 11:00–19:00 for wine tastings, wine sales and the eatery. Closed Good Friday, 25, 26, 31 December and New Year’s Day. Note that some site footers have listed Tuesday–Sunday hours with tastings closing ~18:00 and kitchen/sales ~18:30—always confirm when booking. Kitchen closing times on the tasting-room page have also been noted around 17:00; pre-order food if you are timing a busy weekend.

Pair Peter Falke with other Annandale / Helderberg stops for a southern Stellenbosch day of mountain views and Atlantic-cooled fruit. Arrive mid-afternoon if sundowners matter—few Helderberg rooms stay as open into the evening. Serious drinkers should request Signature / Kailani / Kanoa; sociable groups can settle on the lawn with PF pours and a picnic basket. Combine with a morning Helderberg hike or another Annandale cellar, then linger here as the light softens on the Helderberg slopes.
On Groenvlei Farm, Annandale Road, against the Helderberg slopes in the Stellenbosch winelands—Helderberg / Annandale rather than central town.
Peter and Danièle Falke acquired Groenvlei in 1995; the Falke family has South African business roots since 1969.
Walk-ins are common for smaller parties within opening hours, but groups of 10+ need appointments, and food specials / picnic baskets should be booked. Confirm hours and kitchen close times ahead of weekends.
Formal portfolio wine tastings conducted only in the Tasting Room and adjacent outdoor area. Groups of 10+ by appointment only. Informal lawn & bean bag seating has no formal tastings (order by glass/carafe/bottle).
