Hemel-en-Aarde Valley · Western Cape
Domaine des Dieux is a wine farm in Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Walker Bay, Western Cape. About 92 km from Cape Town.
Domaine des Dieux (“Place of the Gods”) is a boutique family wine farm on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge along the R320 toward Caledon, in Walker Bay’s cool elevated foothills of the Babylonstoren mountain range. Established in 2002 by business partners Sharon Parnell and Peter Clarke, the property transformed former sheep pasture into roughly 28 hectares of vineyard. Day-to-day leadership is described on regional Hemel-en-Aarde pages as resting with Sharon’s daughter Megan Mullis (winemaking) and her husband Shane Mullis (viticulture).
The farm’s reputation is strongest in Méthode Cap Classique—it is widely cited as the first sparkling producer in the Hemel-en-Aarde—while still wines of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah (plus Sauvignon Blanc and smaller parcels) built earlier critical attention. From 2025, Megan Mullis publicly stated a full focus on Cap Classique production and a renovated tasting experience branded as a house of fine bubbles (maison de fines bulles).
Do not rely on stale open hours without phoning. Research conflict as of 2026-10-01:
Editorial preference for this guide: treat the tasting room as closed or status-unconfirmed until further notice unless Domaine des Dieux or a same-day phone confirmation says otherwise. Prefer a closed / call-first notice over advertising open hours that may no longer apply.
Always call +27 28 313 2126 or email info@domainedesdieux.co.za before driving the Ridge specifically for this farm.
Regional farm copy places vineyards at about 320 m above sea level on deep clay soils topped with broken shale—water-retentive ground suited to cooler-climate ripening. Plantings cited include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and smaller parcels. Elevation and Ridge exposure are part of why the estate pursued both still Burgundian varieties and traditional-method sparkling.
As the Hemel-en-Aarde’s early MCC specialist, Domaine des Dieux has been associated with bottles such as:
Still-wine fame historically includes highly scored Chardonnay (trade reports reference major Decanter / Veritas / Trophy Wine Show moments) and recognised Pinot and Syrah. Under the Cap Classique specialist strategy, expect the visitor narrative—and possibly the tasting flight—to centre on bubbles when the maison de fines bulles is open.
Do not invent current prices or flight menus; ask the farm.
When the tasting room operated, Hemel-en-Aarde Wines described personal tastings with vineyard views, deck or lawn terrace service, cheese and charcuterie platters, occasional bottomless bubbly Fridays (select times or pre-booked groups), and an art of sabrage option. Bookings were essential for larger groups (regional note: groups larger than 15). Use that only as historical context until status is confirmed.
Until you have a confirmed open day, plan Ridge tastings at farms with live confirmed hours (for example Creation) and treat Domaine des Dieux as a phone-ahead Cap Classique specialist. Collectors can still seek Claudia, Rose of Sharon, and newer bubbly releases through wine shops and the farm’s email channel.
Status is unconfirmed / prefer closed notice. Phone +27 28 313 2126 before visiting. Do not trust outdated directory hours alone.
First Hemel-en-Aarde Cap Classique producer; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah still wines; from 2025 a declared Cap Classique focus.
Founded by Sharon Parnell and Peter Clarke (2002); Megan and Shane Mullis described as day-to-day winemaking and viticulture leads on regional pages.
