Bosman Hermanus Frame House: Upper Hemel-en-Aarde tasting

Bosman Hermanus is the Walker Bay cellar door of Bosman Family Vineyards, set on De Bos farm along Karwyderskraal Road in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley above Hermanus. Do not confuse this stop with the family’s Wellington home or the separate Bosman Elevated tasting—this page is only about the coastal Frame House experience. Official site: bosmanhermanus.com.

The tasting venue is the Frame House, a sustainably built wood-and-iron structure under a large tree, designed for quiet views over fynbos and vineyards rather than a busy beachfront circuit. Less than a third of the farm is under vine; the rest is managed for indigenous fynbos, and the estate presents itself as a WWF Conservation Champion. A working flower farm also produces proteas and fynbos foliage sold at the Frame House, with custom orders available for events.

Coastal and Country tastings

Two named flights are published on the official contact page:

  • Coastal tasting — R150 for five wines
  • Country tasting — R150 for five wines

Staff guide the pours; wines are available for purchase afterward. Bosman Family Vineyards draw on nursery expertise and fruit from multiple growing regions, so the Hermanus flight is a curated selection of the broader Bosman range rather than a single-valley-only list. Book online or via +27 76 300 0819 / taste@bosmanhermanus.com.

Opening hours and booking rules

Verified on the official contact page:

  • Monday: closed
  • Tuesday–Friday: 10:00–16:30 (kitchen closes 15:30)
  • Saturday: 10:00–16:00 (kitchen closes 15:00)
  • Sunday: 10:00–15:00 (kitchen closes 14:00)
  • Public holidays: 10:00–15:00 (kitchen closes 14:00)
  • Also closed 25, 26 & 31 December, 1 January, and Good Friday

Weekend bookings are essential. In peak periods tables are held for a maximum of two hours. Groups are capped at eight on the standard booking flow; larger parties should email taste@bosmanhermanus.com. Payment is cashless (credit card or SnapScan). Seating is intentionally limited to keep the atmosphere calm—arrive with a reservation rather than assuming a same-day walk-in on busy Saturdays.

Sharing plates, Private Hut, and Sunroom

Seasonal sharing plates and coffee sit alongside the tastings. A March 2026 menu PDF on the estate site has listed options such as Charcuterie & Cheese, Mezze, Cape & Coast, and a smaller snack platter, with add-ons for items like crispy squid or pan-fried abalone when offered—menu items and prices change seasonally, so treat current board prices as authoritative on the day. Kitchen close times are earlier than tasting-room close times (see hours above).

The Private Hut is a small wooden structure among the fynbos for privacy and views. Official copy notes it can seat four but suits two best (proposals, anniversaries). Book well ahead so staff can prepare it.

The Sunroom is a glass-fronted, weather-proof extension of the Frame House for up to 30 guests, still focused on the views. It can be booked exclusively for special events during operating hours in off-peak seasons.

Koppie trail and family-friendly space

Conservationist Frank Woodvine and team laid out the Koppie trail: about an hour through farmland, fynbos, and renosterveld to a viewpoint that, on a clear day, can take in Walker Bay from Gansbaai toward Hangklip. Trail fee R50 per person. The venue is marketed as child-friendly, with outdoor play space and an informative fynbos meander—useful if your Hemel-en-Aarde day includes mixed ages.

How to get there and what not to mix up

Drive up the Hemel-en-Aarde Pass from Hermanus, leave the beaches below, then turn toward the De Bos dam / Karwyderskraal Road until the low-slung Frame House appears under its tree. Address published by the estate: Bosman Hermanus, De Bos farm, Karwyderskraal Road, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Hermanus.

This is not the Wellington Bosman Elevated tasting. If a booking confirmation or map pins a Wellington address, you are on the wrong Bosman product. For Walker Bay itineraries, use bosmanhermanus.com and the Hermanus phone/email above.

Why include Bosman Hermanus on a Walker Bay day

Hemel-en-Aarde is known for cool-climate Pinot and Chardonnay neighbours, but Bosman Hermanus adds a distinct Frame House setting: conservation-led land use, two clear R150 flights, sharing plates, optional hut or Sunroom, and a paid Koppie walk with a real coastal panorama. Book weekends, respect the two-hour peak table window, and pair the tasting with the trail if weather allows. Confirm any seasonal menu or event (for example Sunset Soirée dates advertised on Bosman channels) directly with taste@bosmanhermanus.com before you travel.

FAQ

Is Monday open? No—closed Mondays and selected festive/religious days listed above. Do I need to book? Weekend bookings are essential; weekdays are still safer with a booking because seating is limited. Cash accepted? No—card or SnapScan only per official terms. Trail and tasting same day? Yes—budget roughly an hour for the Koppie trail plus tasting time; check trail conditions with staff on arrival. Wellington Elevated instead? Separate Bosman Family Vineyards product—not this cellar door.
